AUTONOMOUS
RPG ENGINE

The Digital DM

A persistent, AI-driven tabletop roleplaying ecosystem designed for campaigns that remember what happened, understand the world around the players, and keep evolving long after a single session ends.

DIGITAL DM

More than an AI chatbot with dice.

The goal of ARE is to create something closer to a living digital Dungeon Master and world engine: a system with continuity, memory, authoritative world state, evolving characters, persistent NPCs, and the ability to support a campaign over months or years.

01 / CONTINUITY

The world remembers.

Events, locations, characters, relationships, consequences, and campaign history remain part of the ongoing world state.

02 / PRESENCE

The table stays human.

The technology should support the players at the table rather than turning roleplaying into prompts and menus.

03 / ADAPTATION

The story can move.

The system is intended to react to unexpected player decisions instead of forcing every campaign back onto a fixed script.

04 / ACCESSIBILITY

New players belong here too.

Guided beginner experiences and expert modes are designed to let newcomers and veterans use the same world.

What we're building toward.

These are the core capability areas of the project. Some are already part of active development, while others remain planned or experimental.

Persistent World State

Authoritative records for locations, NPCs, quests, events, factions, characters, and campaign history.

AI Dungeon Master

A Digital DM intended to interpret player actions, manage narrative flow, adjudicate game state, and present the world dynamically.

NPC Memory

Characters that can retain important history, relationships, promises, conflicts, and changes over the life of a campaign.

Player Journals

Private and persistent player records, alongside shared campaign history and quick-recap tools.

Voice & Character Presence

Long-term plans include multiple voices and more natural table interaction between players, NPCs, and the Digital DM.

Scenes, Characters & Maps

Visual generation for NPCs, environments, scenes, and campaign records, with VTT-style presentation where useful.

Rules Support

A system designed around explicit game rules and authoritative state rather than improvised memory alone.

Beginner & Expert Modes

Guidance for absolute newcomers without forcing experienced players through tutorials they do not need.

Beholder Tabletop Concept

A future hardware-assisted tabletop concept using multiple microphones and wide-angle cameras to help the Digital DM understand the physical table.

Development status.

ARE is an active Silvermane Studios development project. We prefer meaningful milestones over fake completion percentages, so progress is shown by development stage.

Why we're building it

AI can already improvise a scene. That's not the hard part. The harder problem is maintaining a believable world, preserving consequences, tracking hundreds of moving pieces, understanding what the players actually did, and making the next session feel like it belongs to the same campaign.

ARE exists to explore that harder problem.

Development claims on this site are intentionally conservative. Planned features remain labeled as planned or experimental until they are genuinely working.

From the Studio.

This area is designed to become the public development journal for ARE. New milestones, architecture decisions, interface work, experiments, and major project updates can be published here as the project evolves.
